Debossing
Debossing presses the mark into the surface with a metal die, leaving it recessed without adding ink or thread. It appears most often on leather goods, notebooks, folder covers and paper packaging, and it is the quiet option: the logo is read as a shadow and a texture rather than a colour.
Depth and definition follow the material. Soft leather takes a deep impression; heavy coated stock needs a firmer die. Very fine detail can close up, so the artwork is usually prepared with slightly thicker strokes than for print.
