Hot Stamping
Hot stamping presses a heated die through metallic foil, leaving the mark in a reflective finish. It reads as gold, silver, copper or a coloured foil depending on what is chosen, and it is used most often on notebooks, gift boxes, leather goods, ribbon and packaging.
The effect is graphic rather than photographic: solid shapes and clean type stamp cleanly, while halftones and fine gradients do not. Foil colour should be chosen against the product’s own colour, because a silver on white reads very differently from a silver on navy.
